Illinois State Police have released details on the fatal crash on Route 37 at the Sassafras Road intersection south of Salem. The victim is identified as 43-year-old Jessie Scott of Valier. The Salem JV Wildcats swept visiting Mt Vernon in summer baseball action at SCHS Field. Salem won the opener 4-3. Trailing 2-0 in the third inning, Salem scored a pair to tie it and then plated two more in the fourth to earn the win. Cooper Lobek and Jackson Green drove in runs, Rhett Detering added 2 hits, Braden Rector and Aden Bass added hits with Keaton Gullion walking twice and scoring both times.
