MINNEAPOLIS -- A 72-year-old man died Friday in a crash on Interstate 90 in southern Minnesota. The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. on the interstate's eastbound lanes near Fairmont Township, which is about 60 miles east of Worthington. Investigators say a Buick sedan crashed into a Chevrolet sedan. The driver of the Buick, Gary Roland Peterson of Granada, was killed. He was not wearing a seat belt. The other driver, a 45-year-old Iowa man, was hospitalized with injuries that were described as "non-life-threatening." Road conditions were dry at the time the crash.

On Monday, the Jackson American Legion Post 130 baseball team beat Windom, which won the Big South Conference championship this spring. On Thursday, Post 130 did even better, topping Fairmont, the team that just won the Class AA state title, 11-9. Jackson led 7-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, then Fairmont scored four runs to get back in it. Jackson answered with four runs in the seventh, then held on when Fairmont plated four of its own in the bottom half.

Just over twenty years ago, Donald Buldhaupt moved from his farm into town. The life-long Lake Wilson resident spent a lifetime farming, including welding projects with his brother, but now Don needed something to do with his time. “I decided to work in my garage building things out of wood,” he said. And for twenty years, that’s exactly what he did! Two years ago Don moved to Pipestone and brought with him about thirtyfive of the over fifty replica tractors, farm equipment and construction vehicles he designed and built entirely out of wood. Don remarked, “Sometimes I use a little wire, maybe a nail or a small jewelry chain, but otherwise they are all wood.” This includes wheels, tracks and moving parts! “I often had to design my own tools to use. It was a learning process.”

Marshall man is a lifetime collector with a collection on its way to one million stamps. Two large trophies sitting on a table in Steve Klein’s office in Marshall were giving off a radiant glow from the sun’s rays penetrating through a nearby window. Klein didn’t earn these trophies or any of his many blue ribbons for showing animals or for baking pies at the state fair. They were the product of his philatelic prowess. One of the trophies he was awarded in 2017 was for an impressive and informative collection of Abraham Lincoln stamps.

The Worthington Fire Department spent 3 hours Tuesday morning on the south end of Strait avenue battling a house fire that could not be salvaged. Demolition crews assisted the fire department by demolishing the structure to put out the flames. No one was injured.
