At his April trial, La Salle County States Attorney Todd Martin said Fredres went looking for his ex-wife on March 16, 2021. Martin said Fredres murdered his ex-inlaws Gregory and Brenda Barnes, because they refused to reveal where their daughter lived.

Authorities have released the identity of the person who drove a vehicle into the Illinois River in Ottawa in the small hours of Thursday morning. La Salle County Coroner Richard Ploch says the body of 20-year-old Tyler Carson of Ottawa was recovered by rescue workers in the early morning hours of Thursday. Events started when police tried to stop Carson's vehicle at Norris and Canal. Carson drove away, heading south on La Salle, across the Veterans Bridge and into Allen Park. Police then saw Carson drive the car over a bank and into the river. The subsequent search included multiple dive teams and sonar equipment from La Salle, Will and McLean counties. A forensic autopsy was conducted later in the day on Thursday. Those results are pending.

LASALLE – 24th Street/Wenzel Road between LaSalle and Peru will open up on Friday morning. Workers will be on the road removing the barricades and officials say the road should be opened by 8 a.m. Peru and LaSalle city officials had a ribbon cutting to celebrate the end of construction that began in late March. The new roadway is designed to handle stormwater and is wider by around 7 feet.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction on Illinois 78 north of Annawan will begin Tuesday, July 5. Work includes pipe culvert improvements through the levees at Coal Creek, north of Annawan. Shoulder closures will be utilized, and drivers should be prepared to stop for flaggers, who will be directing traffic. The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 19.

OTTAWA – Authorities have identified the body found in the Fox River in Ottawa on Tuesday. According to the Ottawa Police, they were called to the Fox River near the 100 block of E Jefferson St for a report of an individual floating in the river. The LaSalle County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 63-year-old Jeffrey M. Asbell Sr. of Ottawa. The incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa Police Department Detective Division and the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office.

Ottawa police are investigating the case of a man found dead and floating in the Fox River Tuesday night. At about 6:45, police were sent to the river near the 100 block of East Jefferson Street. There they found the man dead in the water. The Ottawa Fire Department helped remove the body from the river. His name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Another suspected drug dealer is off the streets. On Monday, the TRIDENT Drug Task Force worked wtih the La Salle Police Department in a bust operation in the 300 block of Civic Road in La Salle. As agents were watching, 40-year-old Jeremy Johnson of La Salle pulled up and met with an undercover agent. That's when police say Johnson sold agents more than 200 purported LSD tabs. After the deal, Johnson's Silverado was stopped by La Salle Police on Route 351 south of North 30th Road. He's been charged with Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance -- LSD -- and that is a Class-X felony.

Donna M. Inman, 83, of Earlville, IL. passed away Monday, June 27, 2022 at Rush-Copley in Aurora, IL. She was born May 22, 1939 in Elgin, IL the daughter of Daniel and Dorothea (Nuhn) Green. She married Richard L. Inman on August 27, 1960 in Elgin, IL. She was formerly employed by Earlville High School and substituted at Leland High School. She was a member of the LaSalle County Retired Teacher’s Executive committee and was also a member of the Tuesday Night Ladies Bowling League for over twenty-five years. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1961, where she was active in the debate team. Donna enjoyed knitting and crocheting, spending summers in northern Wisconsin and caring for her beloved cats.
