L-D baseball squeaks by Douglas 8-7

DEADWOOD — Lead-Deadwood’s high school baseball team won in dramatic fashion, defeating Douglas 8-7 Thursday night, in Deadwood. With one out in the bottom of the seventh Beau Wichterman doubled, and then stole third. With one out, Drew Janke singled to bring home the winning run to give the Golddiggers the win, 8-7.

BOX ELDER, S.D. — Before their long day of practice, members of the Blue Angels made a special stop at Douglas Middle School. A pilot and a maintenance officer spoke with 7th and 8th graders about the Blue Angels mission and what it’s like to fly faster than the speed of sound.

Douglas High School brings Orwell classic to life

BOX ELDER, S.D.– For Douglas High School’s Artistic Director Kevin Plooster, adapting George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” has been a beast of a challenge, taking years to prepare. From trying to keep the dialogue and themes of the novel to even expanding on minor characters like Moses the Raven, who takes on an almost prophetic role according to Plooster, he is excited to see the students act it out and bring the pages to life.

Scoopers JV baseball team gets two wins over Douglas

STURGIS — The Sturgis Scooper junior varsity team played sure handed and didn’t commit a single error in the 13-1 win over the Douglas Patriots in the first game of a double header on Monday at Strong Field. In the second game, Douglas jumped to an early 7-0 lead, but the Scoopers battled back and won, 14-9 in seven innings.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) -The Douglas, Lead-Deadwood, and Rapid City Central girls golf teams opened the season by playing at the RC Triangular at the Elks course on Monday. Douglas finished first as a team. The Patriot’s Allison France fired a 50 on nine holes to finish first individually.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Purple is the color for the Month of the Military Child. There are 1.6 million military children in the United States and nearly 40 percent of students at the Douglas School District are military-connected. At Vandenberg Elementary the school district showed their gratitude to military families at the school drop-off. When kids are new to the school they prioritize support and embrace the different experiences that each child has.

Escaped inmate back in custody

RAPID CITY, S.D. – According to a press release from the Department of Corrections, a. state prison inmate that was placed on escape status on March 22 is now in custody. Inmate Christopher Burns was apprehended in Douglas, W.Y. on April 5. He left his community service jobsite in Rapid City without authorization in March and didn’t return to the Rapid City Community Work Center.

St. Thomas More rallies to beat Douglas in high school baseball

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Despite the windy conditions, St. Thomas More squared off against Douglas on Tuesday in high school baseball. After falling behind in the second inning, the Cavaliers rallied to beat the Patriots, 23-8. Turner Thompson doubled in the first inning to score two runs for STM.
