Without further comment, the University of Oregon announced last week that Track and Field Head Coach Robert Johnson would not have his contract renewed. Johnson has been with the Ducks program since 2005, hired by then-Coach Vin Lananna to work on throws, hurdles and sprints. When Lananna moved into Athletic Administration in 2012, Johnson was named Head Coach. Under Johnson, Oregon’s Men won NCAA Outdoor Titles in 2014 and 2015, and the Women won NCAA Outdoor Titles in 2015 and 2017.

Springfield home gutted by explosion, fire

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A home is a total loss after an explosion and subsequent fire destroyed it, Eugene Springfield Fire says. Fire department officials say that at about 2 a.m. early this morning, June 27, crews responded to multiple reports of an explosion and fire at a house on Seventh Street in Springfield. The house was reportedly completely engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived, and the property was declared a complete loss. Officials say the Springfield Utility Board was contacted and shut off electricity to the building. Fire crews were able to contain the inferno after several hours and no other neighboring structures were damaged or lost, according to the fire department.

Eugene police arrested a North Bend man suspected of committing two attempted murders in Coos Bay, following a chase in which the man swam to islands in the Willamette River to elude officers.
