2022 Senior Thang to be held August 20

The Donley County Senior Citizens will hold its second “That Senior Thang” on Saturday, August 20, at the corner of Gorst and Fourth from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be a full concessions and a County Store full of home baked goodies. The free street games will range from pull-the-rubber-duck and sidewalk chalk art to football toss, cornhole, and horseshoes.

District court hears pleas in local cases

The District Court heard five pleas when it met in Clarendon on Wednesday, July 13, and it also heard three local cases when it met in Memphis on July 7. Amarillo man, 22, killed in Donley County crash after vehicle strikes wild animal

A 22-year-old Amarillo man died and another person was injured after a vehicle rollover crash involving a wild animal on US 287 in Donley County early Sunday. According to a news release from the Department of Public Safety (DPS), at about 12:50 a.m., a 2001 Toyota Tundra was westbound on US 287, about three miles east of Hedley, when the driver struck a wild animal in the roadwayand lost control of the vehicle. The Tundra left the roadway, traveled into the center median, and rolledover, ejecting an unsecured passenger. The Tundra came to rest facing northeast in the center median.

County okays plan to hire survey takers

Donley County Commissioners on Monday approved a plan to employ survey takers in an effort to expand local eligibility for several grants. As reported last week, federal agencies currently operate with a survey that says 42 percent of Donley County households are of low to moderate income. However, some grants are only available to communities with 51 percent or more households are of low to moderate income. Local officials believe the number is under reported and are pursuing doing an independent survey.

Commissioners appoint Hatley as new JP

Donley County Commissioners appointed Sarah Hatley as the new Justice of the Peace for Precincts 1&2 during a called meeting last Tuesday, May 31. Hatley sealed her party’s nomination to be the Republican candidate for the JP position a week earlier.
