Iowa Supreme Court affirms Stanley Liggins’ conviction in 1990 death of Rock Island girl

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Iowa Supreme Court affirmed Stanley Liggins’ life sentence without parole for the death of 9-year-old Jennifer Lewis in 1990. Among his arguments, Liggins argued his conviction should be tossed because of alleged juror misconduct, admission of a transcript testimony of a dead witness without a full opportunity for cross-examination and a violation of due process because his trial happened more than 30 years after Lewis’ was killed.

Family-friendly activities will take place throughout the day in Davenport and Rock Island. At 9:30 p.m. fireworks will be shot, in sync to music broadcast on 97X, from two barges in the middle of the Mississippi River.

Area High School Baseball Players Take Part in the QC Area vs. QC Metro All-Star Game

Four local high school baseball players were a part of the Quad Cities Metro vs. Quad Cities Area High School All-Star Baseball Game at Douglas Park in Rock Island on Wednesday night. Heavy police presence at three locations late Monday

UPDATE, June 28, 10:52 a.m. — Davenport Police are investigating two shootings that happened late Monday night. The first, June 27, at approximately 11:05 p.m., police responded to the 1000 block of Scott Street in reference to reports of shots fired with an individual injured by gunfire.
