Green Country Schools Work To Keep Campuses Secure After National Tragedies

Ten years ago, a man shot and killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. It's one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history, and people hoped it would be the last, but far from it. These acts of violence happen in other schools, most recently in Uvalde, Texas.

Whitaker Park Pool Renovation

PRYOR, Oklahoma - Approval has been given to complete preliminary renovation design plans for Whitaker Park Pool. The Park Board gave the go-ahead to Don Paddock with Paddock Enterprises on Monday, August 8. Mr. Paddock explained, "I'm trying to fix what's broken and enhance the appearance and make people want to go there." According to Paddock, ADA compliance for all features will be paramount to the design while features including a wading pool remain optional and can be discussed upon his return. Mr. Paddock will be back within 45 days with the completed design.

Ribbon cut for Saline Courthouse Museum

ROSE – It has been open for two years, but the Cherokee Nation’s Saline Courthouse Museum in Delaware County never got to celebrate with a “grand opening.”. That misfortune, attributable to the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, was rectified with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 12 on the grounds of the museum, which has become a prime cultural attraction managed by Cherokee Nation Businesses. The event was free to attend and open to the public.

Green Country Businesses, Organizations Donate School Supplies To Students, Teachers

Several companies and organizations around Green Country are stepping up to help students and teachers with school supplies as they begin to return to the classroom. For students in Sand Springs, any student who qualifies for free lunch can get school supplies and a backpack thanks to Sand Springs Community Services. These students will also get a $40 clothing voucher to use at Walmart.
