Latta man charged in 3 Marion shootings, police say

MARION, S.C. (WMBF) - A Dillon County man is facing charges in three separate shootings dating back over a year. The Marion Police Department said 28-year-old Javon Rhieen Brunson was arrested Monday in connection to the separate incidents in the city that happened on Feb. 25, 2021, June 10, 2021 and Jan. 25, 2022.

19-Year-Old Pleads In Reckless Homicide Case

Jaquan Allen, 19, pled guilty and was sentenced Friday by Circuit Court Judge Michael Nettles in General Sessions Court in Dillon. Allen had been charged in March of 2022 with reckless homicide and unlawful carrying of a pistol. During the hearing, Assistant Solicitor Shipp Daniel told the Court the facts.

Eagle Pleads Guilty In Shooting

Circuit Court Judge Michael Nettles accepted a guilty plea from Kenny Eagle, age 27, in Dillon County General Sessions Court. Eagle admitted his guilt to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime for shooting a man three times in August of 2019. During the hearing, Eagle said he shot the man because the man had disrespected Eagle’s mother during a verbal altercation. The victim had no weapon and did not make any threats of physical harm during either the verbal dispute or when Eagle approached him.

Dillon County First Steps Nurturing Fathers Program Graduates First Class

Dillon County First Steps Nurturing Father’s Program had it first program graduation on June 29, 2022 at the City of Dillon Wellness Center. Twenty-three fathers completed a 13-week evidence-based training course designed to teach parenting and nurturing skills to men. Each 2-hour class provides proven, effective skills for healthy family relationships and child development. In addition to teaching these skills we also included 5 additional training courses to include health and wellness sessions, interviewing skills, and financial literacy, because it is our goal to ensure that fathers get the additional support and resources needed to be better parents for their children and citizens in our community. This initiative is funded through South Carolina First Steps, but ran locally through Dillon County First Steps, Mr. Rashawn Aaron (The Village Educational Services), and Mr. Cory Wilson (Fitness by Cory). The second cohort will begin in August 2022.

4-H Shooting Sports Team Wraps Up Season

The Dillon County 4-H Shooting Sports Club wrapped up their 2021-2022 season with a practice session and cookout at the range on June 3rd. With over 30 youth and adults in attendance, it was a fun time to fellowship at the range. Bill Aston, our shooting sports coach, taught club members about 22 Rifles and set up a friendly 22-Rifle target contest where rising freshman 4-Her, Jack Raia, won with the closest pattern to the bullseye.

One Dead After Tractor Trailer Crash in Dillon County

A tractor trailer driver is dead after a crash late last night in Dillon County. The incident happened around 11:35 p.m. on I-95 South near Latta when a 2021 Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling south and slowed down because of traffic then was hit from behind by another tractor trailer also traveling south. The 56 year old driver of the second truck died at the scene but their identity has not been released. The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating.
