Dillon County councilman seeking to help troubled teens

DILLON COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Dillon County Councilman Jamal Campbell said he's seen more violence among teenagers in his county and across the Pee Dee. “I grew up here in Dillon. And I have experienced some of the challenges of gang violence. Gun violence. I think, one of my aspirations. One of the reasons that I ran is that I wanted to actually see change. And I realize that in order to see change, and you don’t get the change that you’re looking for. You have to actually go out and become the change that you want to see,” said Campell.

Friends Group Needs Support For Dolly Parton Imagination Library Program

The Friends of the Dillon County Library System first priority is to raise money to improve and support library services in Dillon County, and to serve as the agency used to bring books to Dillon County through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The DPIL program sends free books to children 0-5 in Dillon County each year with no cost to you. The Friends of the Dillon County Library System supports and funds this project. The year 2020 was a difficult year for our Friends’ group due to the pandemic. We usually have multiple fundraising programs during the year to raise money, but the pandemic made doing such fundraising impossible. We have now reached the point that we need our community’s help. The Friends group only has enough to support the program for another few months. I would like to raise at least $1000.00 dollars to keep the program going through the fall. Your involvement in helping us reach this goal will make all the difference in young children’s lives in Dillon County. When you give money to support this program you are giving back to your community, and helping us lay the groundwork for the future of our children.

Editorial: A Man Who Gets Things Done

The Little Pee Dee State Park is one of Dillon County’s greatest natural treasures. Many people have one memory or another that they can associate with the park. Some took their first camping trip there. Some caught their first fish there. Some remember attending a family picnic, birthday party, reunion, or other event at the park. Mamy memories are still being made there, and many are due to the improvements over the last few years that have been made at the park.
