DUENWEG. Mo. — Just after 7:45 p.m. Jasper County E911 were alerted to reports of a structure fire on E 7th and Snapdragon Lane. Duenweg Fire Dept, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies, METS ambulance responded. Joplin Fire, Carterville and Webb City Fire assisted with mutual aid. News to Know: Coffeyville man sentenced for murder, and firefighters battle a blaze in Duenweg

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – A Coffeyville man accused of shooting and killing another man in 2020 is sentenced on Thursday. Ethan Bellamy will spend nearly five years in prison followed by three years probation. Authorities accused Bellamy of shooting and killing Otis Horner at an East Coffeyville apartment in June 2020. Bellamy was originally charged with first-degree premeditated murder. He pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter back in March. Click here to find previous articles about this case.

State funding will boost Joplin classrooms

JOPLIN, Mo. — Leaders at the Joplin School District are still crunching numbers for the 2023 budget, but say some classrooms will see a boost. Governor Mike Parson has added supplemental state funding for the end of the 2022 budget, and extra cash is also included in the proposed budget for 2023.

New Canaan Police late Wednesday arrested a 45-year-old Webb City, Mo. man after finding that he had an extraditable arrest warrant out of Lee County in North Carolina. At about 11 p.m. on May 25, an officer stopped a vehicle that was towing a trailer without a license plate. During the stop, the officer found that the passenger in the car was wanted, and arrested him without a warrant, as permitted under state law. He was held without bond pending extradition.
