Hopewell police investigate Fourth of July drive-by shooting

HOPEWELL, Va. (WWBT) - Police in Hopewell are looking for the person responsible for shooting into a vehicle while driving past another vehicle. On Monday, July 4 around 4:15 p.m., police responded to the area of Cedar Level Road and Wilmington Avenue for the report of an accident that resulted in the vehicle getting hit by gunfire.

Hopewell Police: Driver on city street shot at by someone in a speeding car

HOPEWELL − Police are investigating a drive-by shooting Monday night where the shot was fired from a speeding car. No one was injured in the incident, which occurred around 4:15 p.m. on Cedar Level Road near Wilmington Avenue. Police Lt. Jacquita Allen said in an email that the victim was northbound on Cedar Level Road when a dark-colored Volkswagen sports utility vehicle came speeding up behind it. As the SUV passed, someone inside it shot into the victim’s vehicle.

Three people arrested in deadly weekend shootings in Petersburg, Chesterfield County

Police in Petersburg and Chesterfield County have made arrests in separate shootings Saturday that left two people dead. In Petersburg, police arrested Delvin Mitchell, 19, on counts of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is charged with killing 19-year-old Toni Knight, Saturday as she carried groceries to her residence in the Perry Street Lofts apartment complex in downtown Petersburg. Police said Mitchell and an unidentified juvenile were also shot in what appeared to be a gun battle early Saturday afternoon at the complex. The juvenile, a girl, was treated at a local hospital and released.
