Authorities located the body of an elderly hiker who was missing for six days in a north-central Arizona forest, his dog still by his side. Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue teams located the body of Donald Hayes, 74, of Prescott Valley, who went missing about 85 miles north of Phoenix near Mingus Mountain last Friday.

Small plane has engine failure and goes down in Prescott

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say a small plane went down shortly after takeoff from Prescott Regional Airport, but the pilot escaped injury. They say the pilot was the only person aboard the Cessna 172 when he reported engine failure around 9 a.m. Sunday and he put the aircraft down in a vacant area not far from the airport.

A total of 465 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University students earned degrees at the Prescott Campus commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 7. That number includes 21 Worldwide Campus grads, nine who will earn their master’s degrees, and four master’s degree students from Prescott. Twenty-nine ROTC cadets were commissioned as officers into the U.S. Air Force, and 11 cadets were commissioned into the U.S. Army.

The Prescott Gem and Mineral Club (PGMC) is celebrating this year their 20th Anniversary. Two decades have passed since their first meeting in October 2001 when a few founding members got together. Among them were lapidaries, mineral collectors, and rockhounds. From a few dozen individuals the club has grown to over 300 dedicated members.
