Four people rescued from capsized boat on Devils Lake

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – Ramsey County Sheriff Steve Nelson says authorities were called out about 1:30 p.m. Saturday after a boat capsized on Devils Lake. Nelson says four people believed to be from Minnesota ended up in the lake. The boat turned over and sent the four into the lake.

(Devils Lake, ND) -- The North Dakota Highway Patrol is announcing a retirement of a long-time colleague. K-9 Castor was retired from service on June 15, 2022. The narcotics dog spent her whole career with Devils Lake Trooper Brett Mlynar. The pair was deployed over 200 times throughout the eastern half of the state.

Highway Patrol K-9 Castor Retires from Service

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. ( – On June 15, North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) K-9 Castor was retired from service. Castor, a certified narcotic detecting Belgian Malinois, began her NDHP career in 2015. She spent her entire career with handler, Trooper Brett Mlynar, in Devils Lake. The team was deployed over 200 times in service in the eastern half of North Dakota. Trooper Mlynar, with assistance from K9 Castor, was named the NDHP Trooper of the Year in 2019.

Life sentence for Tokio man in death of foster child

BISMARCK, N.D. (KMOT) – A federal judge has sentenced a Tokio man to life in prison for his role in the death of a five-year-old foster child in his care in May 2020. Federal prosecutors said Erich Longie, Jr. pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder within Indian country, as well as three counts of child abuse in Indian Country, and one count of child neglect in Indian Country.
