Samaritan’s Market celebrated their first year in business this past Wednesday with special deals and door prizes for shoppers. Samaritan’s Market serves Itawamba County and the surrounding area by helping to meet the needs of local community members such as paying utility bills and helping with groceries or clothing items during an emergency. The Fulton based nonprofit organization accepts donations of gently worn clothing, shoes, household items, CDs, books, and pictures at their brick and mortar retail location on Adams Street with 100 percent of the proceeds received going directly toward supporting that mission.

Gilmore Foundation grant to provide $47K for WAES projects

AMORY – West Amory Elementary School will undergo several improvements thanks to funding provided through the Gilmore Foundation. “The Gilmore Foundation has given us a grant for $72,852 to do capital improvements at West Amory. We are going to use that to do some bathroom renovations and awnings at the pre-K building and at the front at the car rider line. We’re going to touchless fixtures in the bathrooms, and water fountains will have bottle fillers to eliminate hands and mouth contact to reduce spreading of germs,” said Amory School District Superintendent Ken Byars during May 25’s special-called Amory School Board meeting.
