Newport native Grant Black promoted to AAA Memphis

MEMPHIS (KAIT) - A Newport native is a step closer to The Show. The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday that pitcher Grant Black was promoted from Springfield to Memphis. Black had a stellar May and June in relief in AA. He had a stretch of 15 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run spanning May 14th to June 21st.

Over $82,000 worth of meth seized in Stone County

Two Mountain View residents have been arrested and charged with trafficking meth and marijuana during a large-scale drug bust, according to Stone County Sheriff Lance Bonds. A release from the sheriff’s department said deputies were searching for Jennifer Mannon, 38, on a warrant for parole absconding. On June 23, deputies located Mannon at a Pitard Loop residence and placed her under arrest. The release said three bags of methamphetamine were observed in the residence.

One hurt in Evening Shade accident

A one person was injured Wednesday afternoon in a Highway AW accident at Evening Shade, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Tpr. Cathryn Davis of the patrol said a northbound 2016 Hyundai Elantra operated by Deyvid R. Roman, 28, of Plato, turned into the path of a southbound 2018 GMC Yukon operated by Erica D. Stevens, 38, of Houston.

Eddie Joe Sample, 67, of Pleasant Plains, departed this life on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, following a long illness. He was born on January 12, 1955, to Charlie and Leda Sample.
