(DES MOINES, IA) Gas prices vary across in the Des Moines area, but if you’re willing to head for the cheapest station, you could be saving up to $0.74 per gallon. On Saturday the cheapest gallon of unleaded regular in the area was at QuikTrip at 3700 Hubbell Ave. Regular there was listed at $2.64 per gallon Wednesday, compared to $3.38 at Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh at 5169 Merle Hay Rd, which GasBuddy clocked as the most expensive station in the area.

Indianola Streetscape Construction Update

The intersection of Salem Ave and B St. is now open, after being reconstructed as part of the Indianola Square Reconstruction Project, with traffic now allowed north and south on B St. Next week, storm sewer work begins on Buxton St. south of Salem, as well as curb and gutter work on Salem and Buxton. Sidewalk replacement begins in several weeks, and construction contractors are currently in the process of contacting local businesses that may be affected by the work, and will be updated on the speed of the sidewalk replacement and several notices before any work begins. Major traffic switch on Grand Avenue to occur on Monday, September 27

A major traffic switch will take place in a busy area of West Des Moines on Monday, September 27. Construction crews will open Grand Avenue from 1st Street to the previous Wendy’s site and close Grand Avenue between the previous Wendy’s site to just east of 5th Street. Indianola Streetscape Construction Update

The Indianola Downtown Square Reconstruction Project worked on curb and gutters on Salem Ave between Buxton and Howard last week, in addition to the construction of sidewalk ramps at the intersection of Salem and B Street. This week, curb and gutter placement will take place on Buxton Street, and preparation work for the placement of permeable pavers will begin. Additionally, it is anticipated that the Intersection of B Street and Salem will be reopened to traffic next week. Phase 1 construction is expected to be completed by mid-November.

Here’s a Taste of What the 41st Street Overpass on I-29 Will Look Like

While riding with a friend in Ankeny, Iowa last weekend, we drove under I-35. My friend was confused and I saw the future of the busiest street in Sioux Falls. This goofy looking intersection is bound to make the excellent drivers of Sioux Falls seethe with the change. It's called a diverging diamond. It was announced back in March that the 41st Street overpass on I-29 would be getting one of these modern traffic marvels. Of course the diverging diamond will go over the interstate and not under it like the one pictured.
