Federal fugitive arrested in eastern Iowa after a year on the lam

ZWINGLE, Iowa – A federal fugitive who had been on the loose for a year was finally arrested Wednesday afternoon in eastern Iowa. The U.S. Marshals Service says Untavious Davenport, 39 of Illinois, was apprehended near Zwingle, a community just south of Dubuque. Law enforcement had been looking for Davenport since he was indicted in June 2020 by a federal grand jury in Missouri for conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl.

Federal fugitive arrested outside northeast Iowa farmhouse

ZWINGLE —U.S. Marshals who’ve been tracking an accused drug dealer through several states for the past year arrested the man on an Iowa farm late yesterday afternoon. In June of last year, 39-year-old Untavious Davenport was indicted by a Missouri grand jury on federal charges of conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl. U.S. Marshals were called in after Davenport fled Missouri. They followed a trail to Chicago, then through other states, and ultimately to a rural area just north of the town of Zwingle, which has fewer the 100 residents.

Exira man killed in motorcycle crash

(Exira) -- An Exira man was killed in a motorcycle wreck Wednesday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol says authorities responded to the wreck near the intersection of Littlefield Drive and 310th Street near Exira around 5 p.m. The patrol says 65-year-old Jed Bengard Jr. was driving a 2020 Indian Challenger north on Littlefield. As he approached a curve, the patrol says he left the roadway for unknown reasons and entered a ditch, causing the bike to overturn.

Iowa Gov. Reynolds sending State Patrol officers to southern border

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Citing “the rise in drugs, human trafficking and violent crime,” Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is sending State Patrol officers to the U.S.-Mexico border. “My first responsibility is to the health and safety of Iowans, and the humanitarian crisis at our nation’s southern border is affecting all 50 states,” Reynolds said in a news release Thursday. Reynolds said Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott formally asked for help June 10, and she is honoring their requests.
