NEW YORK -- Pride weekend celebrations are being held around New York City ahead of Sunday's march. The 30th Annual Dyke March starts at 5 p.m. Saturday in Bryant Park and ends in Washington Square Park. On Friday, the Annual Drag March stepped off in Tompkins Square Park and made its way to the Stonewall Inn.The march started as a protest in 1994 after the main march banned drag queens out of fear of offending corporate sponsors. "Whenever we manifest here there's always a sense of being there for each other. Off-duty NYC cop busted for assault in Queens, police say

An off-duty NYPD cop was busted for allegedly assaulting a man in Queens late Friday, authorities said. Mohammed Hossain, 27, got into an argument with an “acquaintance” on the 7800 block of Broadway near Baxter Avenue at 10 p.m. and the confrontation “turned physical,” an NYPD spokeswoman said Saturday. The victim suffered an eye laceration and the off-duty cop was “arrested and charged within the confines of the 110th Precinct,” which covers the communities of Corona and Elmhurst, police said. Hossain is charged with assault and harassment, authorities said. The NYPD offered no other details.

21-year-old New Jersey man drowns in waters off state park

A 21-year-old New Jersey man drowned at a state park in Ocean City on Friday, park officials said. Nathaniel Figueroa, of Vineland, drowned in the waters off of Corson’s Inlet State Park on Friday after possibly getting caught in a rip current, state park police told NJ.com. Swimming is not permitted at the state park, officials said. According to an online obituary, Figueroa, who went by “Nito,” was enrolled at Rowan College of South Jersey.
