When Denton firefighter Gary Weiland, 42, had his left leg amputated in 2018, he worried whether he could still be an example of strength for his children. “Physically, it was really hard to take, and mentally, it was even harder,” Weiland said of his amputation. “When I looked at my kids, they looked at me like I was the most pathetic thing they’ve ever seen.”

A man trespassing in a vacant apartment evades arrest after jumping fence

The Denton Police Department is investigating an incident involving trespassing and evading arrest in the 2400 block of East McKinney Street. At 8:47 a.m., officers responded to a call about a man trespassing in a vacant apartment, police reported. When officers approached the apartment, a man started to run from the apartment complex. The caller identified the man as the same person who was trespassing inside the apartment.

3 men in custody after deaths of 51 people found in San Antonio truck

San Antonio officials said Tuesday that the number of migrants who have died after being trapped in a tractor-trailer on Monday has reached 51 after another migrant died at a local hospital. Forty-six migrants were declared dead at the scene, and five of the 16 migrants found alive in the sweltering trailer have since died after being taken to hospitals.

An intoxicated woman allegedly called a man a racial slur, threw nuts at him

An intoxicated 47-year-old woman who yelled a racial slur and threw nuts at a man was arrested Monday, according to a Denton Police Department report. At about 8:37 p.m., police were dispatched to the Holiday Inn in the 3200 block of South Interstate 35E regarding a disturbance. Hotel management said they wanted the woman to leave because she was harassing guests.
