ATCO officers make fourth arrest in armed robberies investigation

Picket pleads guilty on aggravated assault charge

On Monday, Deedrick Donte Pickett, a 36-year-old man from Ambrose, pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge in the Superior Court of Coffee County. Pickett was arrested on the charge, and two counts of criminal trespassing, in 2020 for cutting another man with a knife during a dispute at a gathering. The case was set to be heard by a jury during a trial this month. However, Pickett pleaded to the charges Monday morning before jury selection would have taken place.

Mrs. Betty J. Jones, age 79, of Alston, died Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. She was a native of Baltimore, Maryland, as child moved to Miami, Florida and lived there until moving to Toombs County in 1991. She worked with Empire Furniture Factory in Miami for several years, she was Baptist by faith and enjoyed puzzles. Preceding her in death were two children, Susan McFarland and David Jones; parents, Johnny Donald Caraway and Margaret Virginia Wilcher Caraway; and six siblings, Oliver Caraway, Johnny Caraway, Pete Caraway, Edwin Caraway, Edith Todd, and Virginia Spainhour.
