Lady Royals still harbor big expectations

NEW SITE – Lily Whitley has graduated and Chloe Chism is injured, but that hasn’t tempered New Site’s championship aspirations. The Lady Royals won the Class 2A basketball crown in 2021 and reached the semifinals this past season. Whitley was the centerpiece of those teams. Chism is her heir apparent, but the sophomore has been sidelined this summer by an ACL injury.

Vina man charged with attempted murder after shooting girlfriend near Red Bay

A Vina man faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly shot his girlfriend Tuesday. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said Shannon Dale Hacker shot the victim on Garrison Hollow Road, outside the Red Bay city limits. Hacker then drove the victim to Red Bay Hospital and dropped her off with a gunshot wound to the arm before leaving the area.

Vina man faces multiple charges after woman shot in Halltown

VINA | A Vina man is in custody following a shooting in Halltown on Tuesday that has left a woman fighting for her life with critical injuries. Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said deputies arrested Shannon Dale Hacker on Wednesday after Hacker fled from the area following the shooting. According to Oliver, Hacker allegedly shot the woman, with whom he was in a relationship at the time of the shooting, on Garrison Hollow Road in the Halltown community outside Red Bay. The victim was taken by private vehicle to the Red Bay Hospital, and was then transported to Huntsville Hospital with critical injuries. Oliver said the victim was shot in the arm with a .22 caliber weapon.

Joshlyn Bowen is a product of Phil Campbell High School and studied business at Northwest-Shoals Community College. She continued her education and has led nationwide sales teams and marketing campaigns. As of May 16 she will be the director of Russellville Public Library. Her husband, Cody Bowen, is the assistant materials manager at TRU Homes by Clayton in Hackleburg and is a songwriter and recording artist.
