Pittsburgh icon Frank Fuhrer dies at 96

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh has lost an icon of the beer world and the local golf scene. If you've ever had a beer in Pittsburgh, there's a good chance it came from the Frank B. Fuhrer Warehouse. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Gerry Dulac reports that Fuhrer died on Saturday at UPMC St. Margaret's Hospital with his wife Heidi by his side. While beer may have been Fuhrer's profession, sports were his passion. He was instrumental in keeping the Pirates in Pittsburgh in the 1990s and founded the Family House Invitational Golf Tournament, which ran for 14 years, and later, the 72-hole Frank B. Fuhrer Invitational. He was 96-years-old.

Only one thing could make the Steelers offense worse in 2022

The Pittsburgh Steelers should have an improved offense in 2022, but there’s only one area that could potentially be worse this year. I specifically remember fans arguing that the Steelers offense couldn’t get any worse from 2020 to 2021. Boy, was that a misguided statement. After scoring 26.6 points per game during the 2020 season in Ben Roethlisberger’s first year back from elbow surgery, Pittsburgh dropped all the way down to just 20.2 points scored per contest in 2021, according to Team Rankings.

Mt. Lebanon middle schoolers raise money for Ukrainian children

MT. LEBANON (KDKA) – Middle schoolers in the Pittsburgh area are doing their part to help children in need due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Those children collected money at the Mount Lebanon Farmers Market. Our very own Kristine Sorensen and her son Vincent started a club at one of the Mount Lebanon middle schools, hoping to help the people of Ukraine. For their efforts, their group joined forces with the other middle school and so far has raised more than $3,000 for "Save The Children – Ukraine." "I really wanted to help them out so they can actually survive because I'm lucky to live here and most likely not be part of a war," said one of the volunteers, Anna Maria Aristegui. Kristine was rewarded for her efforts by our parent company, Paramount, which is donating $10,000 to charities of her choice. Half of that will go to the children of Ukraine and the other half going to the "My Voice" program with "Variety – The Children's Charity."
