High-speed rail work to lead to road closures

Several lane closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Monday through Friday as the California High-Speed Rail Authority conducts geotechnical exploration. This work is being conducted within the Locally Generated Alternative project section of high-speed rail, an approximately 23-mile stretch of high-speed rail between Shafter and Bakersfield, according to a high-speed rail news release.

2-year-old Corcoran boy with rare disease needs kidney, liver, support

CORCORAN, Calif. (FOX26) — Zyaire Jimenez is about to turn two years old. As every day goes by, his need for a new kidney and a new liver becomes more pronounced. The baby boy was born with polycystic kidney disease. The National Institutes of Health describes that as a rare genetic disorder that causes fluid-filled cysts to form on the kidneys, changing their shape and making them much larger. That leads to high blood pressure, problems with the blood vessels in the brain and heart. His mother, Rosalyn Solomon, says in Zyaire's case, it's led him to develop cysts on his liver as well.

Teapot Dome road construction set to begin in July

A much needed upgrade of Teapot Dome Avenue should be done just in time for the opening of the relocated Eagle Mountain Casino near the Porterville Municipal Airport. Since Teapot Dome will be a main access road to Eagle Mountain Casino, which is scheduled to open this fall, improvements for the road will need to be done this summer. And with the expected approval of the road construction to come from the Tulare County Board of Supervisors, the construction should begin next month.
