Monte Vista Historical Society Museum has a new artifact

MONTE VISTA — Peg Schall of the Monte Vista Historical Society and Transportation of the West Museum recently announced that a new artifact is on display at the Transportation of the West Museum in Monte Vista. A potato sorter from about 1921 was found in a South Park potato cave and donated to the society.

Ribbon cutting for Tierra del Sol

A ribbon cutting was recently held for Tierra del Sol Estates, Phase II, in Monte Vista. Community Resources and Housing Development Corp. board and team members took part in the ribbon cutting along with Monte Vista Mayor Dale Becker and Councilwoman Martha Lock. Mayor Becker spoke and was supportive of CRHDC efforts. Tierra del Sol Estates, Phase II, consists of 57 ready-to-build single-family lots. CRHDC stated, 'We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with you and the City of Monte Vista to provide housing solutions.'

MONTE VISTA — The Rio Grande National Forest (RGNF) is asking for public input on a proposed change to the existing fee structure for developed camping and cabin rentals. The overall proposal seeks to increase fees in existing fee campgrounds, initiate new fees for current non-fee campgrounds, extending reduced fees into the shoulder season for several campgrounds, and initiate a fee for two new rental cabins.

Adalene Zielie, 6, of the High Country Team 4-H Club, was the Champion Novice Lamb Showman on Day 1 of the Ray Hinton Memorial Jackpot Show in Monte Vista, Colo., last weekend. In total, Zielie showed 3 lamb, in 8 classes over the 2 day show. She joined approximately 250 other showman from Northern New Mexico, Colorado and the surrounding areas in showing their Market Lambs, Goats and Hogs over the 2 day show.
