Samantha Jones, the daughter of Curtis and Rachel Jones of Hillsboro, has been awarded a $500 HCRTA Scholarship by the Highland County Retired Teachers Association. Jones is a recent graduate of Hillsboro High School. Katie DeSpain scholarships awarded

Allison Hughes has been selected as the latest recipient of the Katie DeSpain Scholarship. Allison is a 2022 graduate of St. Patrick High School, and the daughter of David and Tammy Hughes of Brooksville. At St. Patrick, Allison was a member of the student council, Future Business Leaders of America, Pro-Life Club, and the National Honor Society. She was captain of the soccer team, and also of the basketball team where she was a member of the 1000 Point Club and the second leading scorer in school history. She also participated on the cross country, softball, and tennis teams.

Two leaders from Southern State Community College, including a Washington C.H. resident, have graduated as fellows of the second Ohio Leadership Academy for Student Success. Michelle Callender (Academic/Career Advisor) of Washington Court House and Dr. Rain Nielsen (Assistant Professor of Chemistry) of Williamsburg were among nearly 40 leaders representing all of Ohio’s community colleges that graduated June 15, 2022, as part of the academy organized by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC). It is the first of its kind in the nation to gather mid-level administrators, faculty and staff for a year of training, exchanging ideas and immersion in how to promote student success.
