Iowa fast-food worker’s wage lawsuit survives in U.S. Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday handed a small, but potentially significant, victory to a fast-food worker from Iowa. The court did not address the basic premise of Robyn Morgan’s lawsuit – that the Taco Bell restaurant she worked for had violated wage-and-hour laws. The court did, however, address a procedural issue that could have major implications for U.S. workers whose employers insist on arbitration to settle disputes that would otherwise be heard in court.

Horse shooting investigation in Ringgold County

(Mt. Ayr, Iowa) – Sheriff’s officials in Ringgold County are asking for the public’s help in solving a shooting that resulted in the death of a horse. Authorities say a horse was shot and killed the weekend of May 14th two-miles south of Kellerton, in the area of Highway P-68 and 250th Street. The Hilltop Veterinary Clinic confirmed the cause of death and recovered a bullet.

(Des Moines) -- Another day in Des Moines, another state championship for Mount Ayr sophomore Ryce Reynolds. Reynolds led a trio of top two finishes in the 400 meter hurdles during the first session of day two at the 2022 State Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium. Running out of the eighth lane, Reynolds claimed his second state title in as many days, winning the 1A 400 hurdles with a blazing time of 53.03.

Funeral services for 97-year old Osceola resident Marjorie Baker will be held at 10 am Wednesday at the Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Visitiation will begin at noon on Tuesday at the funeral home, with the family present from 5 to 7 pm. Interment will be in the Van Wert Cemetery. FBI Case Continues in Benton

Federal authorities are continuing their investigation following the raid of a Benton home Tuesday. Several area law enforcement agencies assisted the FBI. According to an email from the FBI’s office in Milwaukee, the matter remains open and no additional details will be released at this time. An FBI officer did say there’s no danger to the public associated with the bureau’s recent enforcement action in Benton. Officials from departments in Grant and Lafayette County were at the scene as well.
