Piedmont police chief on leave pending investigation, mayor says

Piedmont Police Chief Freddie Norton has not retired but is in fact on administrative leave, city officials said Monday. “Chief Norton is currently on paid administrative leave pending an investigation of certain complaints that have been made within the police department,” Mayor Bill Baker said after a special called City Council meeting Monday. “No disciplinary action has been taken.”

Delta variant continues to spread in Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Alabama continues to lag behind much of the country when it comes to COVID-19 vaccinations. Only around 30% are fully vaccinated. This is a big concern which it comes to the spread of the more contagious Delta variant of the virus. Alabama health leaders continue to say you should get those shots. They said the Delta variant is spreading more in the country and here in Alabama.

Woman, 40, killed in west Alabama crash

A 40-year-old Talladega woman killed and a 28-year-old woman was injured in a single vehicle crash Saturday in Sumter County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The wreck happened at approximately 1:20 p.m. when a 1995 Ford Mustang driven by Melvisha Hutchinson Mallory, 40, of Talladega, left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned.
