Area 4th of July events planned

Anyone looking to take part in some July 4th activities won’t have to go too far. The Ramona Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual parade on Monday, the 4th. The parade will start at 11:00 Monday morning on Main Street in Ramona. Parade entries need to be at the school there between 9:30 and 10:30 for the line-up. After the parade, there will also be games on Main Street.

After 39 years running Ward’s Store & Bakery, Patti Ward has made the hard decision to put the business up for sale. “I’ve made a very difficult decision with lots of prayers and the guidance of God to sell my historic family business,” said Patti. “In my heart I know this is the best thing to do for De Smet to revitalize with new blood. I will miss my business. I have worked at this store since I could read the numbers on the cash register. Our store has been in my family for 65 years.”

The museum is getting a makeover!

Youth compete in national Charolais event

1947: Lightning strikes home, starting house on fire

Lake Preston will be hosting the 2012 Kingsbury County Cancer Walk on July 13 at the Lake Preston track. Originally the Kingsbury County cancer walks were part of the American Cancer Society, with funds going back to them. Since 2008, the money raised by the walk has been kept in the county and distributed to those diagnosed with invasive cancer.

A friendly meat competition

The annual BBQ, Beer and Friends was held on Saturday night at the Lake Preston Campground. It was a great day for some friendly competition. While some teams started cooking the night before, the first competition was the Kids Que, which ended up bringing 13 kids making hotdogs and eight kids working with hamburgers.
