Houses hit by gunfire in Decatur neighborhood

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Police said they are searching for a vehicle after two houses were hit by gunfire Wednesday evening in Decatur. Officers said at 5:21 p.m., they took a call about shots fired along North Church Street. A caller said a person had been shot, but authorities came to the scene and did not find any evidence of a gunshot victim. They said no gunshot victims came to either of the Decatur hospitals.

Man accused of running over woman in deadly hit-and-run pleads guilty

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A man accused of running over a woman in a deadly hit-and-run case pleaded guilty in court. Authorities said Christopher R. Castelli, 33, killed 27-year-old Alisha Gordon on Oct. 30, 2020, after picking her up in his vehicle. The two of them got into a fight, which led to him hitting Gordon with a car door as he backed up, police said.

Man sentenced to over 24 years in prison for drug/gun possession

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A Champaign man will spend over 24 years in prison for drug and gun possession. In a news release, U.S. Department of Justice officials said 41-year-old Quintez Turner was sentenced for drug-trafficking, possessing heroin with intent to distribute and possessing a gun as a convicted felon.

Convicted felon from Champaign sentenced for drug, firearm possession

URBANA, Ill. (WAND) -A convicted felon found to possess a firearm and drugs has been sentenced to prison. Quintez Turner, 41, was found by U.S. District Court Judge Colin S. Bruce to have an extensive criminal history that appropriately led to him being classified as a career offender. He was charged with possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking offense, possessing heroin with intent to distribute and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

New Miniature Golf Course Opens in Rantoul

Exciting developments in Rantoul seem to be par for the course lately, and the opening of a new miniature golf attraction is the latest example. The Fringe, a miniature golf course featuring 36 holes of mini-golf, opened just on the north side of the Rantoul Family Sports Complex on July 18. SHIRLEY — A 63-year-old man from Mascoutah is dead after a series of traffic crashes Wednesday on Interstate 55 south of Bloomington, according to Illinois State Police.
