Fight breaks out after MHS graduation

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A fight broke out after Meridian High School’s graduation Friday morning. A News 11 viewer, who wants to remain anonymous, sent us a video of the fight that happened on campus. In the video, you can hear people screaming, and you can see one person wearing a blue cap and gown punching a person in a white t-shirt. You can see two other people in white t-shirts jumping in the fight.

Meridian Parks & Recreation hosting “Touch a Truck” event Saturday morning

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian Parks and Recreation is hosting its annual “Touch a Truck” event Saturday, May 28, at Highland Park. It starts at 10 a.m. Children will be able to see and interact with fire trucks, police cars, ambulances and a helicopter, just to name a few things. There will also be face painting and other activities for kids to enjoy. It is an opportunity for people to come out and kick off their summer vacation.

Former Middleton Attendance Center students come together for their class reunion

LAUDERDALE CO, Miss. (WTOK) - Former students of Middleton Attendance Center got together to celebrate their 52nd class reunion. The school is now known as Northeast Elementary School. Prior to becoming Northeast Elementary, Middleton was the only school in the county for black students. The school was desegregated a semester before the class of 1970 was able to walk the line but they don’t feel like they’re part of the classes they walked with at other schools. Being back in the school for the first time in years was a trip down memory lane.

New spa opening, but more than just a spa

New businesses choose downtown Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian is growing in new businesses as people are investing in downtown and helping to improve the area. (WTOK) - We are heading into a beautiful Memorial Day weekend starting with a mostly clear night tonight and cool down into the mid-60s by about 10 p.m. If you are heading out Saturday for any outdoor activities, expect a beautiful day with temperatures in the mid-80s with some passing clouds. Sunday is a remarkably similar story as we will see temperatures reaching back up closer to the 90s and we will back into the 90s starting on Monday.

Several pounds of marijuana off Meridian streets after MPD arrests

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Three and a half pounds of illegal marijuana were seized by Meridian Police after three men were arrested in two different traffic stops Friday. The first arrest, of Shermaina Ruffin took place near 5th St. and 52nd Ave., he was initially stopped for a tint law violation. Police say that during the stop the officer noticed the smell of marijuana and after searching the vehicle one pound of marijuana was found. Ruffin is charged with possession of a controlled substance and bond was set at $25,000.

High pressure will have an influence on our weather for both Saturday and Sunday, and this means abundant sunshine with just a few passing clouds. Highs, Saturday, will climb into the Mid 80s with highs around 90 degrees for Sunday. Outdoor activities get a green light, but be careful in the heat. MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - The June 7th primaries for the Republican Mississippi 3rd Congressional District are drawing near and candidate Michael Cassidy is vying for the seat.
