Granite Falls, Garvin women injured in collision near Marshall Tuesday evening

Women from Granite Falls and Marshall were injured when their vehicles collided near Marshall Tuesday evening. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, on Aug. 16, Krista June Fulghum, age 38, of Granite Falls, was driving a 2022 Kia Sportage eastbound on Highway 23, while Kelly Ann Jacob, age 54, of Garvin was driving a Ford pickup southbound on Highway 59. At about 9:22 p.m., their vehicle collided at the intersection of the two roads.

I learned something new today. I learned that we have an actual saltwater lake in our state, and we only have one of them. According to The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Salt Lake, which is located about 3 miles away from Marietta, is a 312-acre meandered lake, which means it crosses the borders of states if I'm not mistaken.

Drug bust in Granite Falls yields more than 13 ounces of meth

(Granite Falls MN-) A 68-year-old Granite Falls man is in jail after a drug bust Wednesday. The CEE-6 Drug and Gang Task Force, with help from the Granite Falls Police and Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Department, executed a search warrant at the suspect's home and seized more than 13 ounces of methamphetamine and $6000 in cash. Undercover agents had earlier purchased meth from the suspect.

Swift County Benson Health Services seeks affiliation with CentraCare

(Benson MN-) Swift County Benson Health Services is seeking full affiliation with CentraCare of St. Cloud. The Swift County Monitor News says the announcement was made at a joint meeting last week involving the SCBHS Governing Board, Swift County Board and Benson City Council. The city and county have to approve the affiliation agreement before proceeding. The paper says they will be meeting with employees and the community to explain the transition that will take place and hope to have all the work done by October 1st, and implement the plan by January 1st. Under the proposed agreement, CentraCare would assume all operations, assets and expenses of SCBHS. The local governing board would no longer be needed, but an advisory board would need to be created.

Swift County Fair gets underway next Wednesday

The Swift County Fair starts Wednesday, Aug. 17, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 21 at the fairgrounds in Appleton. The area’s 4-H youth have been busy working on their projects and getting their livestock ready for the annual week of the fair. St. Cloud shooting suspect apprehended Friday night in Dawson

DAWSON (KMHL) – U.S. Marshals and local law enforcement arrested a suspect in Dawson Friday night from a quadruple shooting that occurred in St. Cloud in July. Daquan Christopher Ledbetter, 28, is being held in the Chippewa County Jail in Montevideo after his arrest on a Stearns County warrant. According to a criminal complaint, Ledbetter is among three men charged in a July 6 shooting in St. Cloud.

Third Suspect in July 6th Quadruple Shooting in St. Cloud Arrested

(KNSI) — The third suspect wanted in connection to a quadruple shooting in St. Cloud last month is in custody. Twenty-eight-year-old Daquan Ledbetter was arrested in Chippewa County after a standoff Friday night. The U.S. Marshals Service tracked Ledbetter to a home in Dawson. Members of the Marshals Service, Dawson Police Department, Lac Qui Parle Sheriff’s Department, the West Central SWAT team, and the CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force worked to get Ledbetter into custody after he allegedly refused to come out of the home for more than three hours. He eventually surrendered without further incident. No one was hurt.

Swift County gets million dollar grant to improve Appleton OHV Park

(Benson MN-) U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo Tuesday announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1 million grant to Swift County to support the recovery of the local tourism and outdoor recreation sector by making improvements at the Appleton Area Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Park. This grant is funded by the American Rescue Plan.

Geyer Demolition Landfill closing will be costly to county, residents

Swift County residents and local governments will soon be looking for a new site to get rid of demolition debris and likely paying significantly more money in the process. As of Oct. 1, the Geyer Demolition Landfill west of Swift Falls will be closing under an agreement with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA.) The landfill is owned and operated by Dennis “Fuzzy” Geyer. It takes in demolition debris from houses, barns, sheds, and other structures.
