Recovery Effort for Missing Swimmer

POWELL COMMUNITY, Ala.-- On Sunday, June 21 around 7:00 p.m, emergency personnel in DeKalb and Jackson Counties were advised of a missing swimmer in the Powell Community. On Monday afternoon, DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Deputy Director Michael Posey confirmed that the rescue had transitioned to a recovery effort.

Woman drowns in DeKalb County floodwaters

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (WAFF) - One woman drowned after floodwaters swept her vehicle off of the road in Fort Payne. Coroner Tom Wilson says 22-year-old Makayla Ross drowned when she lost control of her car near Airport Road. There was a flash flood warning issued for DeKalb County yesterday.

A Colorado-based company has asked an Alabama airport to rezone about 88 acres for a proposed plant that would turn dead chickens and chicken parts into animal food. Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. wrote to the Gadsden Airport Authority on Friday, asking it to rezone the property from light to heavy industrial use, The Gadsden Times reported. This is the company’s first formal request involving the land, according to the newspaper.
