Ben Pennock of Steelville died Wednesday at the age of 95. Visitation is Sunday at noon at Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville with the service to start at 2 o’clock that day. Burial will be in the Keysville Cemetery in Keysville.

Kimberlee Dunn – Service 7/2/2022 Noon

Kimberlee Dunn of Cuba has died at the age of 66. Her funeral service will be Saturday at noon at Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Burial will be in the Sellers Cemetery in Dillard. Visitation is Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Donations Needed For Property

(Potosi, MO) JKK Inheritance Haven Executives are still asking for donations to purchase property for a building where survivors of human trafficking can experience healing. The Executive Director of the Haven, Ronnie Dubois, says the 37 acres has water, septic, electric and a driveway already prepared, and they are looking for sponsors for each acre.

William "Bill" Lee Mabe

William "Bill" Lee Mabe of Steelville was born on Saturday, September 14, 1957 in Cuba, to Richard L. "Step" Mabe, Sr. and Marie Jane Mabe (nee Lancaster). He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 10 days.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Steelville and graduated from Steelville High School in 1976. He was of the Catholic faith and later enjoyed listening to Jerry Beers on Wednesdays at Steelville Senior Living. Bill was a master carpenter and worked for Bob Berenzen Construction in St. Louis and later owned his own business.

Cuba man attacks woman at river access

A convicted criminal with a previous history of violence attacked a woman attempting to fish at a local river access point after he tried to steal her truck. As a result of the June 13 incident, Michael Everett Uhl, born in 1986, of Cuba, stands charged with the class E felony assault in the third degree, the class D felony of tampering in the first degree, and the class D felony of assault in the third degree.

Man accused of brutal Phelps County murder has trial delayed six months

The trial of a Pennsylvania man accused of a brutal Phelps County murder is delayed by six months. Josue Martinez had been scheduled for a jury trial to begin next month. But his trial was rescheduled last week to be held January 9-13, 2023. Martinez is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle, and two counts of armed criminal action.

Cuba Man Succumbs to Injuries After Pickup Truck Crash in Crawford County

(Cuba) A man from Cuba died a few hours after being flown to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis after a pickup truck crash early Monday morning in Crawford County. The Highway Patrol says the accident happened on I-44 eastbound at mile marker 207.8, just west of Cuba when a Ford Ranger driven by 33-year-old Justin Studdard ran off the road, struck an embankment, the truck overturned and came to rest on it’s side.

Sullivan Man Injured In Collision On Service Road

A Sullivan man had moderate injuries Wednesday in an accident at the South Service Road and Highway 185. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a 1997 Chervolet Venture driven by Justin Hermann, 25, St. Clair, failed to yield the right of way to a 2004 Cadillac Escalade driven by Larry Rhoades, 66, Sullivan.

Joe Portell Named New Potosi High School Baseball Coach

(Potosi) Joe Portell was recently named the new head baseball coach at Potosi High School. He’ll take over for Steve McCoy who had been the coach for the last 9 seasons. Portell was a varsity assistant for the last three seasons. He says the idea of taking over the team was floated by him in the middle of the season.

The senior was phenomenal at the dish with a .422 batting average, .581 on-base percentage, and .867 slugging percentage. Perkins has been a superstar for the Cardinals on the diamond and on the hardwood, but before she could shine, she had to overcome. At the age of 10, Perkins had to receive surgery that could have been detrimental to her playing career.

Sullivan City Council Passes Three Ordinances, Accepts Second Bid For Paving Golf Course Parking Lot

The Sullivan City Council met on Tuesday, June 21, with one request before them, payment of the monthly bills totaling $1,680,027.15 and the passage of three new ordinances. Under requests and petitions, the St. Anthony Catholic Church received Council approval for a temporary liquor license, contingent upon State of Missouri approval, for their annual Parish Festival to be held August 27 and 28 of this year.
