BARABOO, Wis. — A pair of Sauk County artists, Roberta Condon and Lorraine Ortner-Blake, whose works each express their interpretation of decades of changing landscapes and changing relationships between farmers and their fields, will be featured in the Schwalbach Gallery on the UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County campus, starting Friday, July 1. The campus exhibit, a subset of “Long Time Passing,” a 52-piece installation the pair are showing across the upper Midwest through 2023, will highlight multiple pieces by each artist. The full exhibit will be installed at River Arts Center in nearby Prairie du Sac starting in late August.

Kathleen S. “Kathy” Rockey, age 78 of Orangeville, IL, formerly of Argyle, WI, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born October 2, 1943, in Monroe, WI the daughter of Raymond and Ruth Ann (Thompson) Steiner. Kathy grew up in Argyle where she graduated from Argyle High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to Roy R. Rockey in 1967 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Argyle. Together they moved to Orangeville where she spent 20 years as a cook at the Orangeville Grade School.

The Galena City Council has voted to hire AGHL Law, of Rockford for legal representation in the lawsuit the city faces from resident Wendy Clark. Clark’s suit, filed this month against the city and the project developers of The Parker, alleges that city officials failed to meet the requirements of city codes and state law in approving rezoning requests for The Parker project on the property that includes Galena Marine Hospital. It also argues that city officials did not adequately consider the impacts of the project on nearby residents when making their decisions. The City Council last month approved an ordinance rezoning the property from limited agricultural to planned unit development, along with an ordinance formally annexing 56.2 acres of the 80-acre development that was located outside city limits. Those ordinances cleared the way for work to begin on The Parker project.

Road construction continues on Highway 23 Between Darlington and Mineral Point. The current work on Galena Street in Darlington will continue through the end of July and crews will continue water main and storm sewer installation from Huntington Court to the south. Concrete sidewalk and driveway aprons will be formed and poured from River Street to Ravine Street on Thursday and Friday. On Highway 23, next week, crews are scheduled to remove remaining guardrail sections just north of Darlington along the Pecatonica River and north between Highway 39 and Mineral Point. The entire project is anticipated to be completed by October.
