Dare commissioners adopt budget, set up Avon beach nourishment districts

Dare County Board of Commissioners adopted a fiscal year 2022 budget and in doing so approved the Avon beach nourishment project and tax map. For next fiscal year, which starts July 1, 2021, the budget for all funds totals $177,886,587. The General Fund budget, which is the operating budget, totals $112.7 million.

Spending up in FY 2021-22 town budgets

After dealing with the wildcard of the COVID-19 pandemic impacting last year’s budgets, Dare County’s municipalities have been able to develop their fiscal year 2021-2022 spending plans with less uncertainty this year. All six towns have either adopted budgets, or are set to by the end of June, for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Power restored in Colington

Update11:58 am: The Dominion outage map is now showing that power has been restored in Colington. 10:57 am: Dominion Energy is reporting a small power outage this morning affecting over 100 customers in the Colington area. Crews have been dispatched and the cause is under investigation. Estimated time of power restoration is between 2 and 5 p.m.

Dare commissioners pursue projects for workforce and essential housing

Dare County commissioners moved ahead in designating two sites for evaluation for a mix of year-round workforce and essential housing. At a June 1 special meeting on housing, the commissioners asked staff at the Development Finance Initiative of the UNC School of Government to evaluate two sites: the Bowsertown site owned by Dare County and the existing, privately owned Elizabethan Inn in Manteo.
