Campbell trust makes $1 Million in charitable gifts to Freed-Hardeman University

The Trustees of the Trust established by the late Harryette Campbell of Sikeston recently announced $4 million in gifts to higher education and national non-profits. These gifts are in addition to previous gifts specified in Campbell’s Trust of over $2.3 million to local and national non-profits and higher education made in March 2022.

Manhunt for Cory Waldrop continues

The United States Marshals Service and Chester County Sheriff’s Department are currently conducting a manhunt for Cory Lee Waldrop, 38, of Henderson, according to the Chester County Sheriff’s Department. Waldrop was reportedly seen driving on Hurst Road Monday, June 20, by CCSD Investigator Seth Preslar. Aware that Waldrop did not have a valid driver’s license and noting he failed to maintain the correct lane of travel, Investigator Preslar initiated a traffic stop. Waldrop refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued into Hardeman County, and Waldrop’s vehicle reportedly became disabled at which point he evaded arrest on foot.

Cub Scout Day Camp July 18-22 Cub Scout Day Camp 2022 will be from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. July 18-22 at Freed-Hardeman University. The camp is for all rising first through fifth graders. Camp will offer various types of activities which may include archery, arts and crafts, shooting BBs, field sports, nature, and other fun and unique Cub Scout things. Cost is $125 after if paid after May 27. Fee includes five days of activities, camper t-shirt, collector’s patch, and insurance. Snack and lunch provided daily. Parents can also register as a camp volunteer. Parents who volunteer all week will receive 50% off registration for one child. Register online at

FHU has 129 student-athletes earn academic awards

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The student-athletes of Freed-Hardeman University showed off the first half of their name in the spring of 2022 by seeing 129 different players earning academic awards. 45 Lions and Lady Lions were named to the President's List with 84 earning a spot on the Dean's List, with six two-sport athletes listed on both Dean's and President's list. To be on the President's List, a student must be full-time and have a 4.0 grade point average. Students on the Dean's List have earned a minimum 3.4 grade point average for the semester.
