Culminating on Saturday this year, the Fordyce on the Cotton Belt Festival will get "back on track" after being postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic. The festivity was first launched in 1981 to recognize Fordyce's storied railroad history and was popularized by a 1982 concert featuring June and Johnny Cash.

Truck, car sideswipe in Dallas County, one driver dies in overturned vehicle

Two vehicles collided on Arkansas 229 north of Carthage in Dallas County about 10:25 a.m. Thursday, killing one driver. According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Gary Eugene Rogers, 62, of Carthage was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 north when he crossed the center line. The truck struck the front bumper of a southbound 2005 Sterling driven by Steven L. Ashcraft of Grapevine in a side-swiping manner. The truck left the roadway and overturned.

Shortly before noon today The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an abandoned vehicle parked at a vacant building on HWY 167. Deputies arrived and found a vehicle parked underneath a carport with a door to the building partially opened. While clearing the building deputies located two individuals asleep inside. Both individuals were arrested and transported to the Dallas County Jail. During a search of the vehicle deputies located 5 firearms of which 4 had been reported stolen as well as ecstasy and methamphetamine.

Man Arrested After Single Vehicle Accident in Dallas County AR On HWY 9 Near Princeton

Today shortly before 2pm Dallas County received a 911 call about a single vehicle accident on highway 9 near Princeton. The caller advised that the driver had fled into the woods carrying some bags. Deputies quickly arrived on scene and set up a perimeter. Units with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission arrived on scene with a K9 to help track the driver. A short time later the driver was located hiding in the woods. John Caleb Ross has been booked into the Dallas County Jail on the following charges; Leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license, fleeing on foot, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as a warrant from the Arkansas Board of Parole.

State Police reviewing fatal shooting by Dallas County deputy

The State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Hot Spring County man by a Dallas County deputy following a traffic stop and chase. Two sheriff’s deputies on patrol in Sparkman at 8:50 last night (Sunday, March 7th) initiated a traffic stop involving a truck driven by Joel R. Weldon, 43, of Hot Spring County. During the course of the traffic stop, Weldon fled from deputies who pursued the truck north from Sparkman along County Road 232. During the pursuit, Weldon reportedly stopped and began firing a gun at the deputies leading to an exchange of gunfire with one deputy.
