Where Texas teachers carry guns, a community feels more secure

UTOPIA, Texas - Three months before a teenager opened fire on fourth-graders in Uvalde, school administrators in Utopia, a 45-minute drive north, called a lockdown. Older students piled desks in front of a classroom door. Another teacher told the children not to flush the toilet, fearing it would make too much noise.

San Antonio’s sausage makers keep a venerable — and delicious — tradition alive

Sausage looms large in the San Antonio area's lore and legend. The Germans, the Alsatians and the Poles all had a hand in creating and fostering the long-lived sausage-making tradition, with the Cajuns and Mexicans not far behind. Given our demographics, it should come as little surprise the hearty delicacy features in at least two local festivals — Wurstfest in New Braunfels and St. Louis Day in Castroville.

Watch me run!

“Watch me! Watch me run outside Grandma!” said little Tucker as he took off out the back door, dressed in two of the fastest shoes in Devine. Two different shoes, mind you. And he was so fast that he ran right out of them shortly after taking off, and then again and again, as he ran in circles around every solid object in our yard.
