Fresh food and fun were on the menu Saturday at the opening day of the Alliance Farmers Market. The weekly showcase has a new home for the 2022 season, at the northeast corner of East State Street at South Union Avenue. Those who attended June 25 cited plenty of parking and a spread out shopping area as pleasing parts of their experience. Activities are available for children and adults alike during the rain-or-shine Saturday events that will run 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 1.

Pets at highest risk of going missing during July 4 holiday, reports say

CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s no secret that the booming sounds of Fourth of July celebrations can be a source of major stress for pets. But animal groups warn that family dogs and cats might do more than hide under a bed ... more pets go missing during the July 4 holiday than at any other time of the year, according to Pet Amber Alert. The group says there typically is a 30% increase in reports of lost pets after July 4. Only about 14% are returned to owners, and between 30% and 60% end up being euthanized because they can’t be properly identified.

Man shot to death at gathering on Cleveland’s East Side

CLEVELAND, Ohio – No arrests have been made in a shooting that left a 33-year-old man dead Saturday on the city’s East Side, police said. Police were called about 12:40 a.m. to Morris Black Place and Mount Caramel Road to assist the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department with a shooting. Officers offered aid to the victim until paramedics arrived, police said.

Fire reported at Bob’s Hamburg restaurant in Akron

AKRON, Ohio — Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at Bob’s Hamburg in Akron late Wednesday night. The iconic restaurant in the 1300 block of East Avenue had some smoke and water damage after an exterior door caught fire. Our crew at the scene said damage was limited and nobody was hurt.
