Braham looks to annex part of Stanchfield Township

Some Stanchfield Township residents were alarmed by the likelihood of becoming inhabitants of the city of Braham. The residents’ concerns were flared after they learned that the Braham City Council has decided to proceed with the annexation of the areas within the city limits of Braham that are still part of Stanchfield Township.

Isanti to add performance center to Bluebird Park

Uses for Bluebird Park in the City of Isanti will be expanding with the addition of a performance center, which was approved by Isanti City Council in a split vote at its June 1 meeting. Council members Jimmy Gordon and Paul Bergley opposed the project; Mayor Jeff Johnson and council members Steve Lundeen and Dan Collison voted in favor of the project.

Noise, junk yard issues boil over in Scandia

The City of Scandia is looking to add some teeth to its public nuisance ordinances. With local frustrations with junk yards and noise seeming to have boiled over, the Scandia City Council last week gave city staff permission to begin reviewing and propose stronger city’s ordinances for dealing with those issues.

Workshop on public art, design and placemaking held in Osceola

The Osceola Main Street Organization hosted Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s (WEDC) spring Main Street Workshop on Public Art, Design, & Placemaking at the Discovery Center. Osceola was one of three statewide locations selected based on the town’s ability to complement local arts activities. The workshop is intended to help invigorate and inspire residents as the community embarks on their Downtown Streetscape Planning process. The workshop brought together a broad spectrum of local business owners, community leaders, arts professionals as well as a public artist, a filmmaker, a few landscape architects, and arts administrators for the day. They helped apply their talent and expertise to envisioning opportunities to incorporate more public art in Osceola.

Isanti residents voice a need for an additional outlot road due to growth of residential development

Isanti residents filled Isanti City Hall on June 1 to request another road outlot be installed within their residential development that will soon be significantly expanded. During the Isanti City Council meeting June 1, Community Development Director Sheila Sellman explained that developer Anthony Hanson has submitted the preliminary and final plat approvals for Fairway Greens South. Fairway Greens South development is located along Eighth Avenue Northeast and Wendover Street Northeast, just to the west of Evergreen Apartments and on the north side of County Road 5.

Cambridge approves downtown grant funds for Calico Moose Artisan Shoppe

A relatively new downtown Cambridge business will be getting some financial support from the city to help with some needed repairs. During the Cambridge City Council meeting June 7, the council approved giving Johanna Robinson, owner of the Calico Moose Artisan Shoppe and Classes, $5,450 from the Cambridge downtown grant fund to help pay for roof repairs.

Cambridge teen fatally shot in Minneapolis

One of the victims in a series of fatal shootings over the weekend in downtown Minneapolis has been identified as a 17-year-old Cambridge-Isanti High School student. According to multiple reports, Nicholas Enger was observing cars “hot rodding” early Saturday morning, June 5, when an argument broke out between drivers, during which someone pulled out a gun and opened fire. A stray bullet from that gunfire allegedly struck and killed Enger.
