Counties report increased COVID-19 cases

Curry and Roosevelt counties, like many others across the state and the nation, are reporting increased numbers of COVID-19 cases in recent weeks. Through Friday, Curry County had reported 81 new cases in July, three more than it recorded in all of June. Sixty-eight new cases had been reported since July 9.

Four new local COVID-19 cases reported over weekend

More than 370 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the state between Saturday and Monday, according to the New Mexico Department of Health’s daily case update Monday. That included four new cases in Chaves County, 128 in Bernalillo County, 33 in San Juan County, 29 in Eddy County, 24 in Sandoval County, 22 in Valencia County, 19 in Santa Fe County, 17 in both Doña Ana and Lea counties, and 13 in Curry County. Seven counties, the Otero County Processing Center and Torrance County Detention Facility each reported fewer than 10 cases.

Appointed to New Mexico Retiree Healthcare Authority Board Curry County Manager Lance Pyle has been appointed as the New Mexico Counties Representative to New Mexico Retiree Healthcare Authority (NMRHCA) Board of Directors. Pyle started his career in County government in September of 1998 and has served as the Curry County Manager since December of 2007. Pyle holds a Bachelor’s Degree with Distinction in Business Administration, with a major in Human Resource Management, from Eastern New Mexico University. Pyle also serves as Chairman of the New Mexico County Insurance Authority Pool Board and Vice President of the Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents.

Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Andrea Reeb, announced that on July 6, 2021, Ernesto Martinez, age 32, of Clovis, was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for 11 years. Martinez was found guilty on June 23, 2021 by a Curry County jury of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a fourth-degree felony and Tampering with Evidence, also a fourth-degree felony.
