A temporary injunction issued Wednesday by Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Court has halted work on the state’s plan to toll bridges on nine major highways around the state. That means a public hearing scheduled for Thursday has been canceled for the Interstate 78 bridge in Berks County, said Ron Young, spokesman for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 5, which covers the Lehigh Valley.

Judge Halts PA Bridge Tolling Plans For Now

HARRISBURG (AP) – A judge has ordered a temporary halt to Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to toll as many as nine major interstate bridges in PA. Commonwealth Court Judge Ellen Ceisler sided with Cumberland County and a handful of municipalities that are challenging the process as both illegal and unconstitutional. Under the order, PennDOT must stop all studies, right-of-way acquisitions, construction or work under any contracts, and put off any planned hearings, meetings or spending. The lawsuit had been filed by Cumberland County and seven municipalities. PennDOT could appeal the preliminary injunction to the state Supreme Court.
