Four candidates for Culpeper Town Council who are seeking the local Republican Party endorsement will participate in a 7 p.m. forum Thursday at Eastern View High School. Participants in the candidates’ forum, being hosted by Culpeper County GOP Committee, will be David Kulivan, Fred Sapp, Janie Schmidt and Joe Short.

Fun with dogs in Rapidan helps pay the bills for Bull Run Hunt

Racing is no longer just for ponies in Culpeper. This past weekend Bull Run Hunt hosted a fun dog-centered event at the club’s location in Rapidan. The event featured costume and trick class competitions, sack races, egg and spoon races, terrier Racing, in-hand terrier class and in-hand all-breed class competitions, lurcher races, and finally the Bull Run Hound Naming Auction.

Culpeper enjoys Juneteenth Jubilee, notes 'more work to do'

Culpeper residents and friends gathered Saturday for a Juneteenth Jubilee as part of a series of celebrations organized by a local non-profit youth organization. Juneteenth was established as a federal holiday by President Biden on June 17 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. But the holiday has been observed in African American communities since the last groups of enslaved people were notified of the U.S.’s Emancipation Proclamation in June, 1865.

Gordonsville woman charged in fatal shooting of Barboursville man

A Gordonsville woman has been charged with second degree murder in Wednesday night’s shooting death of a local resident in Barboursville. James Manning, 36, was found deceased from a gunshot wound at his home on Hamm Farm Road, off U.S. 33 in Orange County after deputies were called to the scene at 7 p.m. June 16, according to a release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was a husband, father of three school-aged children and a veteran. Brianna Cole Knicely, 27, was later identified as a suspect in the shooting, according to police.
