Firework Fallout: Families displaced after fire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Two families in Lewisburg are displaced after a group of young people shot fireworks at their duplex and lit it on fire. The people inside were asleep or getting ready for bed when it happened. An off-duty police officer was visiting friends in the neighborhood and spotted the group light the unit on fire. She ran to get everyone out before the duplex was destroyed.

Spring Hill to host family camping event at Fischer Park in September

Spring Hill intends to hold an annual event for which a resolution is expected to be presented before BOMA to close down Fischer Park briefly in late September. The Parks and Recreation Department has presented to the City of Spring Hill an idea for a new, annual event self-explanatorily called Campin’ in the Park. The inaugural event would bring residents out to camp at Fischer Park overnight from Saturday, Sept. 24 to the morning of Sunday, Sept. 25.

Intersection of Commonwealth, Countess, Port Royal to become roundabout

Spring Hill’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously approved a fiscal 2023 budget allocation accounting for the construction of a roundabout. Termed the “Countess Roundabout” project, the project comes included in the Capital Improvement Plan as adopted in August 2019, and the city is already under contract with The Corradino Group to build a roundabout at the major intersection of Commonwealth Drive, Countess Lane and Port Royal Road.

Budget talks in Spring Hill focus on growing pains

Urban growth strategies have dominated points of contention in discussion among elected officials as the fiscal 2023 budget has come to fruition. Alderman Hazel Nieves took issue with expenses from the general fund to the tune of some $9.9 million. Come July, the city will have 51 vacancies on staff, which City Manager Pam Caskie says will constitute an insurmountable expense with no way to fill those positions.
