Counties in the “caution” category, or Level Blue, experience 36-100 cases per 100,000 residents over the course of a seven day period.

Public opinion sought as CPW updates goals for managing Southeast plains deer herds

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking public input from area landowners and hunters on its plans for managing two deer herds in Southeast Colorado. The call for public input comes as CPW is revising deer herd management plans for the Arkansas River and the Mesa de Maya deer herds. These plans will guide CPW's management for these herds over the next 10 years.

County sheriff working with federal authorities

Death threats made against elected officials in Crowley County has been escalated to federal authorities, said Sheriff Terry Reeves in a social media statement posted Thursday afternoon. “The investigation into the threats received by many Crowley County residents on June 27-28, 2022, is now nearly complete and we have forwarded the case for prosecution,” said Reeves.

A handful of businesses in the Town of Ordway opted to close last Tuesday and Town Hall was on lockdown following threats made against the the county judge and sheriff. Crowley County Sheriff Terry Reeves assumed the position following the death of his predecessor and was seeking his first elected term to the seat Tuesday.

Imagination Library Is now available in Otero and Crowley Counties

At the end of May, Imagination Library of Colorado received a funding award from the state’s Office of Early Childhood to increase access to age-appropriate books and promote kindergarten readiness by providing 12 free books mailed directly to 1,465 children in 13 targeted Colorado counties including all of Otero and Crowley Counties. Through this partnership, all children in these areas are eligible to enroll in the program from birth until their fifth birthday, with their first 12 books will be funded by this partnership. After the first year, a yet to be determined local county-based affiliate would pay just $1.15 per book per child enrolled in the program thanks to additional matching funds for the state.
