Woman Rescued After Fall from the Discovery Bridge

Friday night, about 8:30, Yankton Police, Yankton County EMS, and Yankton County Search and Rescue responded to the Discovery Bridge for a report of a female screaming under the bridge. Upon arrival it was discovered that a female had fallen onto a ledge of the discovery bridge, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office assisted Yankton Police Department with closing down northbound traffic on the Discovery Bridge as Yankton County Search and Rescue hoisted the female to safety. The female was transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital for unknown injuries by Yankton County EMS. South Dakota Game Fish and Parks also assisted on scene.

Upcoming Musical Is Certainly A Family Affair

The Vermillion Community Theater production of “The Sound of Music” is certainly a family affair. All but one of the young actors portraying the von Trapp children have parents involved in the production. Incoming VHS freshman Issac Mayrose, who is playing the eldest von Trapp son, is appearing alongside his father, Bryce, who has a supporting role. The elder Mayrose says, “It’s a lot of fun to spend time with him in an activity that we both enjoy and that we both have fun with.”

American Legion Auxiliary Wraps Up Year

The Wakonda American Legion Auxiliary wrapped up another busy year at their June 7 meeting. Members presented a Memorial Day Program on May 28th at the Wakonda Heritage Manor and then treated residents to root beer floats. The Memorial Day Dinner was well attended and 131 meals were served. Proceeds from the meal were $453.88, after expenses. The Unit also purchased 2 Memorial Wreaths that were placed at the Legion Memorial Plaques at Union and Pleasant Valley Cemeteries.
