EDISON – In efforts to raise funds for the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3117 is hosting its first 5K run/walk in September. “Due to the COVID pandemic, the Veterans home was not getting as many donations to the entertainment fund,” said Filipe Oliveira, commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3117.

Two men from Ireland – ages 24 and 19 – were charged with fleeing the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash on Middlesex Avenue July 29. Witnesses told police that the occupants of one of the vehicles had allegedly fled the scene on foot. After canvassing the area and a short foot chase, Officer Laurel Louis and Sgt. Joseph Keane were able to locate the individuals. The 24-year-old man was charged with obstruction and resisting arrest. The 19-year-old man was charged with hindering, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury and numerous motor vehicle violations.

Three New York City juveniles in town visiting a friend were charged with burglary, theft and criminal attempt on July 18. A borough resident reported her purse was removed from her vehicle while she was in a store. The resident was able to provide the description of three juveniles she witnessed fleeing the area as she returned to her vehicle. Patrol was able to locate the juveniles, who were allegedly with the resident’s purse in their possession, according to police on the department’s social media page.
