Missing Community Corrections inmate back in custody

Mia Montes, who went missing from the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln on June 7, was located last week and jailed in Lancaster County. Montes, who was in the second year of a four- to eight-year sentence on several drug charges, did not return to the prison earlier this month after leaving her off-grounds worksite, according to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.

Woman dies days after shooting, husband may face new charges

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A 78-year-old Lincoln woman who was shot in the head earlier this week has died, so prosecutors are considering upgrading the charges against her husband. The woman's 80-year-old husband, John Kotopka, is currently charged with first-degree assault and a weapons crime, and he is being held on $500,000 bond.

Police: 2 women arrested after shoplifting in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. — Lincoln Police arrested two women for shoplifting in Lincoln on Monday and Tuesday. Morgan Newsom, 30, was arrested for felony theft by shoplifting along with six others counts of felony shoplifting for prior incidents. Alisha Wilson, 40, was arrested for fleeing to avoid arrest in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, and theft by shoplifting.

It probably shouldn't come as a surprise that Jake Maikkula decided to grab a nap when he got home to Colorado after an official visit to Nebraska on Wednesday afternoon.
