CANTON, Minn. – The Mayor of Canton is resigning. Mayor Nicholas Prestby submitted a letter Tuesday to residents, the City Council, and city employees stating ““Due to recent health issues I am sadly informing you all that I am resigning as the mayor effective immediately today. It has been an honor to be able to serve the city for the last year and a half.”

I hadn't even been up there since my college years, so it was a chance to experience not only the awesome hiking and falls, but some of the local beverages and treats. Berenice A. Freidhof, age 94 of Elma, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Colonial Manor in Elma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, with Father Jerry Kopacek celebrating the mass.

Harmony couple creates unique lawn art

Drivers traveling First Avenue Southwest in Harmony might be taking a second look as they pass the home of Ron and LeAnn Gregg. The couple has created a unique piece of art in their front yard, a project that emerged after their beloved maple tree had to be cut down once it began losing its branches. It was a sentimental tree, as their sons has climbed through the branches as they grew up.

 CRESCO - Ken Fencl of Protivin is not the type of person who toots his own horn but he certainly has every right to. On May 22 at the Cresco Country Club, Fencl chalked up not only his sixth lifetime hole-in-one but his second ace of 2022. His first one of the year came in Arizona in April.

Kathleen A. Ranc, age 70, of Charles City, IA, formerly of New Hampton, IA passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at her home. Kathleen Ann was born August 7, 1951, the daughter of William McRoberts and Clara (Nystel) Schulz in Waverly, IA. She attended and graduated from New Hampton High School. After completing her education, Kathleen moved to Excelsior Springs, Missouri and later returned to New Hampton. She met Francis Ranc and the couple was united in marriage on March 6, 1991. The couple made their home in New Hampton and Charles City before Francis passed away on July 10, 2015.
