Man arrested for sex with minor

Originally published as a Crescent City Police Department Facebook post – “After an initial interview was attempted on 6-23-21 with Constancio Gutierrez-Pelayo, he fled the Crescent City area. Crescent City Police Officer Pearson had worked with the Del Norte County District Attorney’s Office to secure an arrest warrant for a felony violation of 261.5 (d) of the California Penal Code, prior to the attempted interview.

Fireworks leave devastation on the beach

Now that the 4th of July has passed and the revelers have all gone home, the toxic remains of their fireworks are strewn all over the high tide marks at all of the beaches in Del Norte County. These pictures do not do justice to the extent of the problem created by those responsible. There are Styrofoam pellets from mortars and rockets collecting on the sand. They float in the water and can be mistaken for food by the shore birds and ultimately the sea life in the harbor. They will never biodegrade in our lifetimes.

Juvenile Salmon Relocation Needed Due To Drought

Due to drought and poor water conditions in the Klamath River, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) successfully relocated 1.1 million juvenile, fall-run Chinook salmon from its Iron Gate Fish Hatchery in Siskiyou County. The fish were trucked to a nearby satellite facility and to the Trinity River Hatchery 122 miles away where the fish will remain until conditions in the Klamath River improve.

DNACA announces completed artwork by grant awardee

Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness recently announced 2020 Funds for Artists’ Resilience public art grant awardee Jessica Slayton has completed her artwork project. Inspired by the public arts project of the 1930s, FAR was an initiative that made grants to artists who experienced hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic, and empowered them to produce art to inspire the community. The grants were made possible by the Humboldt Area Foundation, through The Ink People in Humboldt county, and included awards to artists in Del Norte, Humboldt and Trinity counties.

Criminal Convictions

Melisa Jean Berdan , 31, of Crescent City, was convicted of cruelty to animals and was sentenced to one year of probation and a fine of $630. Cevin William Bergren, 38, of Crescent City, was convicted of driving on a suspended license and violating probation and was sentenced to one year of probation, 15 days in jail and a fine of $2,274.

Crescent City diesel price check shows where to save $0.10 per gallon

(CRESCENT CITY, CA) Your choice of gas station could be costing you as much as $0.10 if you’re buying diesel in Crescent City, according to a recent price survey. The title of cheapest station in the Crescent City area went to Patriot at 1500 Northcrest Dr, according to a Tuesday survey by GasBuddy. Diesel was listed there at just $4.65 per gallon. The most expensive station in the city was $4.75, at Chevron at 900 Us-101 N, the survey found:
